The declared objective of Group leadership is zero fatalities and disabling injuries on work
sites and facilities under control of the Group. Regrettably, 11 people (2006: 10 people) were
fatally injured on
Murray & Roberts worksites in a year where 172 million hours (2006: 116
million hours) were recorded as worked. Of the fatalities 18% (2006: 50%) were employees
of business partners.
The Stop.Think safety campaign has enhanced behavioural awareness across the Group and
the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) of 3,0 (2006: 4,6) meets the Group’s mediumterm
target. The Group’s long-term LTIFR target of 1,0 will demand significant management
attention to the cultural challenges that influence the change in attitude needed for sustainable
HSE success.
A risk-based HIV/AIDS Policy Framework has been agreed for implementation across the
Group, while work-related health issues such as airborne and noise pollution have been
mapped and are being addressed.
A study into the Group’s carbon footprint has been initiated that will guide new levels of
investment or disinvestment in the context of the global climate change challenge. |
