Shareholders will be aware that in light of increased public sector fixed investment in South
Africa, the competition authorities have initiated a high-profile program of investigation into all
aspects of the construction industry. It would be incorrect to assume, however, that corrupt
practices are endemic to the industry and its associates.

During the period under review, Clough disposed of subsidiary Sheddon UHDE for a
capital profit of R130 million. Various assets in South Africa have been revalued at a net loss
of R86 million
